I am
I'm a long-life learner, I learn by teaching.
Whether it is a traditional or modern education, there are several methods of teaching and learning according to individual's education discipline, philosophy and preferences. Creativity isn't a thing that we can learn right away through a straight forward conventional lecture in a classroom or studio.
Creativity is special. It's an awaken sense that should be discovered together in activity by sharing it to others. We can always train anybody to draw or to paint but to harness creative capability, one should be ready to go deeper by teaching.
Sometime, teaching will make us understand the whole concept of what that we are try to learn by walking through the road even though we are not fully aware of what is coming next. Doing and teaching.
This is why I strongly believe in learning by teaching will grant students better understanding & long-lasting remembrance and not just focusing on getting good grades. Practice, practice & practice will give not just theoretical knowledge but skills that are required for designers to survive especially in design industries.
Students will gather enough input before they start to teach. They will forced to equip themselves with any possible input if they are not ready. In Islam, famous teachers are blessed with awesome memory to recall thousands of Islamic tradition by making sharing into practice through chains of oral transmission.
By teaching, students will get better confidence and ready to defend their stands if somehow challenged by others. It will generate healthy learning environment too.
A Chinese proverb says:
"To know the road ahead, ask those coming back."
It would make somebody waiting and keep on waiting for the answer and not brave enough to make their own discoveries. Sounds familiar? Yes, it is a spoon-feeding method.
I would say:
"To know the road ahead, dare enough to walk through it and ask those coming back along the way."
